MISSION STATEMENT

The all-volunteer Spirit of ’76 Association works very hard to bring together individuals and organizations of diverse political and partisan origins. Each represents a thread in the creation of this unique fabric of our community.

Through a variety of public events, presentations to numerous schools in the area, and community service projects – including the annual 4th of July Parade on State Street attended by tens of thousands – our organization strives to promote the values extolled by the founding fathers of the United States of America.

We endeavor to keep these principles in the public eye, lest we forget the profound insight that our founding fathers had in creating three documents that have changed the nature of the world forever – The Declaration of Independence, The Constitution, and The Bill of Rights.

In this country, we pass along to each new generation the distinctly American ideal that each of us is born into a life of liberty that we are each responsible for preserving. Spirit of ’76 Association strives to help the next generation feel an appreciation for our freedom through events intended to educate them in the history and sacrifice of our founding fathers.

The essence of freedom is to respect the rights and to meet the responsibilities on which our liberty rests and our Republic depends. Maintaining it requires the combined effort of every American. To that end, Spirit of ’76 Association has worked for the past 51 years to honor the spirit this nation was founded upon – the promises of freedom, dignity, and equal protection under the law.
